Iterative Error Diffusion Halftoning Using a Zero Phase Error Filter
نویسندگان
چکیده
The halftone quality of an error diffusion halftone depends on the error filter response. Apart f o rm the magnitude response being a low pass, it is desirable to have a zero phase response. In this paper we propose the iterative error diffusion halftoning algorithm that allows use of non-causal error filter (such as zero phase error filter). W e present simulation results showing that the proposed halftoning scheme is substantially better, specially in retaining the sharpness of the edges and in truthfullness.

On the phase response of the error diffusion filter for image halftoning
Conventional error diffusion halftoning uses a causal error filter. We propose the iterative error diffusion algorithm by extending the error diffusion to accommodate noncausal error filters. We realize the importance of the phase response of the error filter in the error diffusion halftoning method, and demonstrate it using examples. Iterative error diffusion is able to realize a zero phase er...
متن کاملEdge-Directed Error Diffused Digital Halftoning: A Steerable Filter Approach
In this paper the edge-directed error diffused digital halftoning in noisy media is analyzed. It is known that there occurs error in transmitting data through a communication channel due to addition of noise, generally additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The proposed work employs Steerable stochastic error diffusion (SSED) approach, a hybrid scheme that utilizes the advantages of Steerable fi...
متن کاملMultilevel halftoning using multiscale error diffusion
The advance in printing technology makes multilevel halftoning become important as printers can now print inks of different intensities. This letter presents a multilevel halftoning algorithm that is based on multiscale error diffusion. This algorithm takes care of the constrained pixels before handling the unconstrained pixels and diffuses errors with a non-causal filter such that halftones of...
متن کاملModel-Based Digital Halftoning
Digital halftoning is the process of generating a pattern of pixels with a limited number of colors that, when seen by the human eye, is perceived as a continuous-tone image. Digital halftoning is used to display continuous-tone images in media in which the direct rendition of the tones is impossible. The most common example of such media is ink or toner on paper, and the most common rendering ...
متن کاملRestoration of error-diffused images using POCS
Halftoning is a process that deliberately injects noise into the original image in order to obtain visually pleasing output images with a smaller number of bits per pixel for displaying or printing purposes. In this paper, a novel inverse halftoning method is proposed to restore a continuous tone image from the given halftone image. A set theoretic formulation is used where three sets are defin...
